Stroller friendly, dogs on leash.
½ mile RT
Note: Oct, 2015. Report received that the box might be missing.

If you are arriving from Walker Pass area, the letterbox is located in the Canebrake Ecological Reserve, approximately 2 miles southwest of the Canebrake Café located on hwy 178. If you are heading toward Walker Pass from Lake Isabella/Kernville the green gate will be on your left and across the highway you will see a sign for the Canebrake Café 2 miles, and beyond in the distance you will see “SC” painted on a large rock. Enter the green gate and park in the dirt parking area a very short distance from the entrance gate. Note the large wooden sign “Canebrake Ecological Reserve Public Access Trail, Wildlife Conservation Board.” Follow the roped path to the bridge. The letterbox is located under the south corner of the bridge on top of cement support behind second bolt hidden by a piece of cement.
This area is no longer maintained and the path, if you can follow it, will take you to an old pioneer’s cabin that you can see in the distance from the bridge. When this box was planted we saw ample bear scat, and the trail was very overgrown.
