NOTE: Unfortunately the box has been reported in bad shape - book is destroyed, and stamp is wet and damaged. I don't live in the area, so if some kind-hearted soul can, your help is appreciated!!

Terrain: Moderate – clear, wide path, with some hills and possible mud
Clues: Moderate – compass used
Time: About 15 minutes to the box, longer to combine with "Ghost Deer" LB or finish the loop

This mountain resort has some great trails, so don’t be afraid of the “conference center & resort” label. Canaan Valley is one of our favorite areas, and we were very excited to finally make this box.

Enter the park from WV Rte 32, south of Davis. You may want to stop at the Nature Center or the Lodge to pick up a trail map. At the first stop sign, follow the directions to the cabins, on the west side of the park. One of the first trail heads you’ll find among the cabins is the Club Run Trail, on the right side. There’s parking available along the road.

Follow the red blazed Club Run Trail through the woods, eventually heading uphill. At the first fork, bear right and head to the top of the next hill. You’ll find the junction with the Ridge Top Trail; follow the white blaze to link with the Middle Ridge Trail (green blaze).

Near the top of the rise, the trail bears to the left slightly. Find 290 degrees before bearing left. Take about 10 paces to a small tree (you may see the remains of where a sign was attached).

From this tree, take 15 paces at 145 degrees to the rotting log. Then, at 10 degrees, go about 33 paces, crossing the trail, to stop between the hemlocks. Look under the log that crosses the sunken area. Please be discreet as you will be visible from the trail.

When we placed the box in the height of fall color, Cabin Mountain was visible through the trees to the east – hopefully you can see it, too!

Return downhill to the Middle Ridge Trail to seek "Ghost Deer" or continue on Ridge Top to further explore the trails.

Hike length: 1-2 miles
