The Great Blue can be found at the Upper Fall Creek Loop Trail. For more directions follow this link. http://www.indygreenways.org/fallcreek/looptrail.htm

This is a wonderful little loop trail around a large pond with a couple of small islands in it. It also is in close proximity to Fall Creek. It is not uncommon to see several blue herons, geese, ducks, and other waterfowl as well as evidence of beaver and deer. Lots of sparrows and other birds so for those of you interested, bring your binoculars. THis is a fall plant, so don't know how bad the poison ivy might be in the summer...we'll just have to wait and see.

CLUES

Park in the gravel parking lot and head south through the gate in a short split rail fence. The path winds a bit until you reach the actual loop. Once at the loop head right, it will feel a bit like a high school track. As you turn the "westish" corner, look for the sycamore tree at about 110degrees towards the river (not the pond). You may or may not be able to make out a deer path towards the sycamore. Once at the tree then take a heading of approximately 270 degrees to another tree. In the base of that tree is the Great Blue. Return to the parking lot either the way you came or finish the loop. All in all, this box should take about 15 minutes to locate. Congratulations to Hoosier Honey Bee, First Finder on the day of the plant. Let me know how it's doing. Enjoy!
