Alive and well 10 JUN 2005.
This microbox is located at Pillsbury Crossing Wildlife Area near Manhattan, Kansas. There is a low-water crossing with a waterfall just downstream. To find Pillsbury Crossing Wildlife Area, turn east from Highway 177 on Deep Creek Road (about two miles south of Manhattan). Go about four miles, then go straight onto the gravel road when Deep Creek Road curves to the right. You will now be on Riley 421. Keep going (past the stop sign) until it looks like you're going to drive right into the river (which you will if you keep going!). Just before driving into the river, turn right into the parking area for the park.
To find the box, walk up the path toward the outhouses. The box will be in the tree nearest to the women's side of the outhouse. Look in the crack of the tree near the base.
Be sure to get in your car and drive across the low-water crossing (yes, THROUGH the water!) and park on the other side. Then walk down to the river and see the waterfall. While you're in the area, be sure to check out Terry's "Pillsbury Crossing" box!
