Yes, this Letterbox is active again! The stamp is new and the hiding place is a little different, but essentially the same area.

I have always been interested in local history. Whether it is as a result of my parent’s genealogical quest, or my natural curiosity for wanting to know what it was like to live “back in the olden days,” I not know. I do wonder sometimes though, if people were important enough to name streets and parks after, why do we know so little about who they were. In constructing the clues for this box, I had a grand time reading some local history and personal recollections of people who lived back then. Finding out a little about the person for whom they named the street I drive down every day gives me a little connection to the past. My past.

The clues will get you to the starting place. Enjoy reading about Libertyville’s fascinating history as you answer these questions.

The centerpiece to Libertyville’s downtown during the 1930’s was and still is today:
___ (___) ___ ___ / ___ ___ ___ ___

The first settler in Libertyville was:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ / ___ ___ ___ (___) ___ ___

The educational needs for the North end of town during the 1930’s were served by:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ / ___ ___ ___ ___ (___) ___

A famous movie star who attended Libertyville Township High School during the 1940’s was: (___) ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ / ___ ____ ___ ___ ___ ___

The noodle factory located at the edge of town during the 1940’s was
(___) ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ / ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___

The movie house was known as the
___ (___) ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ / ___ ___ (___) ___ ___ ___ ___

In 1839, the town was named
___ ___ ___ (___) ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___, but was renamed Libertyville in 1841.

The movie house was built in 1937 by

___ ___ ___ ___ / (___) ___ ___ ___.

Put the letters in parenthesis into the blanks below to find the start.

Park at ___ ___ ___ ___ / ___ ___ ___ ___ ___, named for old time residents of Libertyville.

Right in the parking lot you can pick up the bicycle trail. Do not follow it into the park. Follow it out over the railroad tracks and across the street. Follow the bicycle trail until you come to a “Y”. Take the branch named after a former mayor of Libertyville, now deceased. When you come to a brook crossing place, do not cross. Instead step off the trail to your left and follow the brook for about 20 feet. You will see a pretty badly decomposed log laying not too far from the brook. The box is in the end away from the brook, under a pile of broken up wood pieces. Please hide it again well, as the evidence in this area seems to show that people come here from time to time to dump their junk. On that note - don't even consider going barefoot or in flip-flops!
