This box is located in one of the largest forests in York Region. I hope my instructions are good enough, but if you would like a map of the forest for reference or future trips, you may find it here:
http://www.region.york.on.ca/yorkexplorer/pdf/Indextakeahike.pdf
(This forest is "North Tract" # 34)

From Toronto-area:
Take Highway 404 North to Vivian/Muloch exit. Go east (right) to Highway 48 (Markham Rd.) Turn left onto 48 (north) you will see the beginnings of the forest on your left. There is a white 'York Region forest' sign a short distance on your left and a driveway to get in. Follow that to the parking lot.

From the parking lot:
Do NOT take the main pathway (has a garbage pail and a bulletin board), instead take the other gated pathway to the North.
You will see that it branches into 4 pathways.

Scenic route (recommended): Take the path on the far right into the forest. Follow the main pathway (keep veering left if you come to a fork) until it ends and meets up with the other path (from the "quick route") (10-15 minutes depending on your speed). Keep walking in the same direction and the path ends soon at a wire fence and veers left down a big hill.

Quick-route:
Take the second path on the right (the one left of the far right).
This is the most direct route, but the downside is the scenery is pretty bland and the path is deep sand which is hard to walk on (but much easier in the winter).
Follow the path until it ends and veers left down a big hill.

The box:
At the bottom of the hill you will see an old fallen log covered in moss on the right. Use this as a guide and look for the last fence post before the hill goes up steeply. The box is between the rusty fence and the fence post covered in sticks and rocks. Please make sure to conceal it well afterwards.

Winter tripping:
This forest is great in the winter for cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. The only downside to the spot I've chosen is that the big hill gets REALLY icy. So get your stamping done soon! It's beautiful out there right now!

*****UPDATE. AUGUST 2005****
I had a few emails saying my box was missing. I went this past weekend (the 19th) and found it on an old tree stump nearby. I think someone was writing in it and forgot to put it back (?)
I have re-placed it between the last tall fencepost and the mossy log, under some leaves with a stick and a rock on top. Please try and put it back as close to that as possible.
Also, there are loggers in the forest right now doing some thinning. It does not affect the area where the box is.

I also forgot to say when I wrote this that this is one of the best forests near a city where there are tons of deer. If you go on an overcast day when there are only one or two cars in the parking lot, you are almost assured of seeing a few on the walk to the box if you are quiet. I saw 4 small ones drinking out of the little pond this weekend. They love to run up and down the hills between the direct path and the scenic one. I have seen a few really large bucks in there in the past.
Oh ya, and I'm told to mention that the forest is covered in poison ivy so watch out!

UPDATE Apr 27, 2006:

I had reports of the box being left out in the open. I went today and dug a hole right beside the last fence post and placed the box in there. I covered it in leaves and put a rock and a new non-rotted log (grey) on top. Also, the pen is messing and I didn't have one on me. I'd be really grateful if someone could add one!! (I won't be back for a month or so). THANKS!!!

removed the box. it was so well hidden that no one found it! I don't go back there much anymore so I would rather take it out than tend to it. Thanks to all that found it.
