History: Fort Steele was an established frontier Army post from June 20, 1868 until August 7, 1886 by soldiers who were sent by the U.S. Government to guard the railroad against attack from Indians. Visit http://wyoparks.state.wy.us/STEELE.htm for further information about this interesting site.

Site Information: The terrain is flat and accessible to wheelchairs. The park is open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily from May 1st to November 15th.

Driving Directions: Travel I-80 East of Sinclair, Wyoming and take exit 228. Ft. Steele is approximately 1 ½ miles North of the highway and well marked with direction signs. Drive to the end of the road a park by the Bridge Tenders House.

Clues: Follow the sidewalk under the Rail Road Tracks to the main fort. (The tracks are still in use so wave at the trains as they rumble past.) Continue on until you come to the gate. From here on you are in the Army now! "Ten-Hut. Forward Harch." Pass through the gate and hope you can get by without pulling latrine duty. "Eyes Right" and you will see a stove that requires more KP then you have time for today. March past the miscellaneous building to the sign in front of the Brass Hat’s quarters. The letterbox is hidden under the 2nd layers of foundation stones behind another flat stone at the Western most corner (280* from the sign).
