###This has been reported missing. 5/18/09.###

Mt. Pisgah, an 885-foot high ridge separating Kreutz Creek Valley and East Prospect Valley, dominates this 85-acre state park. The overlook offers a spectacular view of the Susquehanna River Valley. The park landscape consists of mowed grass fields on the northern and eastern park slopes, pine plantations in the southern area and mature woods on the western section of the park. For more information visit the park at www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/samuelslewis

The park is kid and pet friendly (on a leash and pick up poop). There are handicap accessible areas, but the trail this letterbox is planted is not. Bring your picinic and memories of youth. Restrooms, picinic areas, plenty of play areas and an aboretum.

Samuel S. Lewis State Park is in southcentral Pennsylvania, York County, and is about 12 miles east of York, Pennsylvania. From the Wrightsville exit of US 30 follow Cool Creek Road south about 1.5-miles to Mt. Pisgah Road. Make a right onto Mt Pisgah Road the park entrance is on the left about ¼ mile. Park in the first parking lot to start your journey.

After gathering your letterbox gear look for the sign with Park activities and you can pick up a park map with trail maps, but you really shouldn’t need one. The box is easy to find, but the trail can be steep at times and covered with gravel-which can be slippy—so be careful!!

Head past the pavilion to the Scenic View & Viewing Scope area. You might want to bring a some change for the scope and your camera; the view really is breath-taking (especially on windy days)! Bring a kite to fly-this is the perfect spot to have fun reliving younger years or let your younger ones have some fun. From the Scope and sign head down the hill towards your right. When you reach the road go left and look for brown trail marker for Hill Top Trail. Stay on Hill Top Trail until you reach the brown marker for Short Cut Trail. Turn right onto Short Cut trail. You will see a large Cherry Tree with a white trail marker leaning over the trail. Behind and a little to the left you will find what you seek in a hollow log. Please be discreet when stamping in. The park (especially in the summer) has lots of activities going on. Rehide as you found or better. Continue on the Short Cut Trail and you will come out by the baseball field. You might want to walk up the hill and FLY A KITE before heading back to your car. For those who enjoy a longer path head back to Hill Top Trail for the full mile. Walking stick is optional, but helpful on some of the hills.

This is Black Swan and Pink Panther’s first letterbox. Let us know if you found the box and the shape it was in!
