Difficulty: 1.5 mile hike one way - uphill - with a 1200 ft. elevation gain. It's an outa-breather at that altitude, but my 4 year-old did it with no problem. Lot's of switchbacks that make it a gradual climb.

Bridal Veil Falls is the longest, freefalling waterfall in Colorado and is easily seen from everywhere in town. We hiked up in a gorgeous September snowfall with the leaves changing colors.

Directions: Go up the main drag of this pretty little town past all the businesses and houses. Past the park and cemetery, up the hill and continue after the road turns to dirt. Go through the entrance and pass through the Idarado Mine to the parking area past the mine.
Park in the parking area and hike up the switchbacks for 1.2 miles to the bottom of the falls. This trail is on a 4 wheel-drive road. You will also pass Ingram Falls on the way. Hike up, up, up, until you are at the level of the bottom of the falls. Incredible views the whole hike. At the bottom of the falls is a pullout parking area.

Clues: Look for a post with an information box attached. You can see it if you are looking towards the base of the falls. Stand facing the post and look towards 70 degrees to a large boulder. You will know you are looking at the correct boulder if it has five pine trees growing from the top of it. Go North 7 paces and the rock with trees will be on your right. Face it, count the five trees, and look for your hidden treasure under the root system on the west side of the tree/rock behind a little pile of rocks.

Please rebag everything well and replace the rocks well so this box won't wash out in the spring. Have fun and bring a camera!!!
