The box is back! First finder gets a surprise.

The state park is located 4 miles east of the 15, 18, 66, and 424 intersections on ST. RT. 424. If you are not from around here, you will need to take ST. RT. 424 east along the river. This is marked as a scenic route. Once you arrive in Independence, Ohio, you will avidly look for the Independence Dam State Park sign. You will then turn into the park and follow the road past the dam. You may want to stop and check out what the dam is doing at that moment. If the water is up, you may want to proceed with caution on the next part of your adventure. If the water level looks normal, you can continue to drive into the park.

You will continue to drive through the park while making sure you are going the suggested speed limit. People at Independence Dam State Park are friendly so be sure to wave or you may look suspicious. It is about 2.5 miles from the dam to the Moose Crossing. You will know you are on the right track when you see the tires in the air and two parking lots behind the airless tires. Park in the lot closest to the “Don’t even try to camp here!” sign. Walk to the yellow sign with the silhouette. Face the gate and turn 180 degrees and walk 32 paces ( 1 pace = 2 steps) from the gate. You know that you are on the right track when you are backtracking and see the Sycamore Cave. Inside the cave you will find a Moose Crossing under leaves and sticks.

Traffic can be a pretty tricky thing to overcome. You will hear more than you see. And can be easily fooled by the noise of the water. When placing the Moose Crossing back into the Sycamore Cave, don’t forget to cover the Moose with leaves and sticks to keep it warm and free from danger.
