This box is at the Rio Salado Sand Dunes rest area on I-25 heading towards Socorro. You have to be going north to get to the rest area.
Find the steps at the back of the buildings. You need the steps farthest to the right. From the bottom of the steps, find a lone tree on a hill in the distance. To the northwest of the tree is a large bush against the fence that's the boundary of the rest area. The box is under this bush.
This spot is visible from the rest area, so please be discreet and rehide the box well. Watch for rattlesnakes. You might want to wear gloves when reaching for the box, as the bush is scratchy. Have fun!
As of June 3, 2005, this box may be missing or totally buried with sand and tumbleweeds.
On July 20,'06 we heard that another letterboxer couldn't find this box. We suggest digging around in the sand, it just might be there. Or maybe not! We appreciate updates, we are not able to get back to check on the status.
