Update - This box was replanted Sept. 2005, Last Found 8/06

I first saw these windmills on my way home from my annual Labor Day sojourn to Daily, WV with my caving club in 2003. It was my first time taking Route 219 home and everyone in the car was blown away by them. When I got into letterboxing I just knew I had to plant a box with thier image.

The box is hidden in a very small park on Route 219 between the towns of Parsons and Thomas. The park does not seem to have a name but there is a sign claiming it "Friends of Cheat 2003 Watershed of the Year" and is right next to a beautiful scenic overlook.

Coming up 219 Northbound from Parsons the park is on the left side of the road as soon as you see your first windmill.

Heading down 219 Southbound from Thomas the park is on your right after you pass the windmills and the road turns sharply to the left.

This box is very easy to find in about 15 minutes. Terrain is easy with one small hill near the box.

Park in the lot and head towards the rest rooms. There is a faint gravel path that goes behind the rest rooms. Take it to the pavilion in the middle of the park, not the one closer to the road. Standing next to the grill on the right side of the pavilion take a 260 degree bearing to locate the V-Shaped Maple tree in the far left corner of the park. The tree is covered with lichen and moss. There is a small trail on the left side of the tree that goes down hill. At about 20-25 feet in you will see a V-shaped tree down on the left. There is a very faint path in front of the tree leading off to the left. Take that path and soon you will be in a tiny glade with a tree stump in the middle of it. Stand on the stump facing away from the noise of the road and look into the woods on behind and to your left. About 250 degrees. The box is hidden under a flat rock behind a tree directly in front of you about 30 feet in.

Please re-hide this box in exactly the same spot. For some reason when I was here to do maintenance someone had rehidden the box about 20 feet away on the other side of the glade? All boxes should be re-hidden where originally placed by the box owner.

There is no ink in the box so be sure to bring your own. Also, PLEASE carefully re-hide.

We love to hear about our boxes so please drop us a line at hikers_n_hounds@yahoo.com and let us know what you think. Thanks!
