UP Wildflower Series - Silver Mountain Wild Rose

Silver Mountain is located in the boonies, at least 15 miles north of Sidnaw which is on M-28. Its a fantastic overlook on the north end of the Sturgeon River Wilderness Area. Take time to walk into the waterfalls in this area too.

Follow the signs to Silver Mountain and at the rustic parking area, grab some water and head on up.

Walk up about 163 stairs..... Walk up through the boulders, at the first fork take the right path, on the second fork take the middle path. Ah, enjoy the view!

Although people that carve their names into rocks in public places are smarmy, we will use one of those nasties to find the box! When on the promontory, walk to your right (north east). Look for "ChrisS 8-2-04" below your feet. While standing on this defacement, site 74 degrees and you should see a lone white pine spire -if this true, then you are in the right spot! Then sight 50 degrees, walk about 24 steps and you should be on the end of the big rock. Look carefully down in front of you to see a rock split right in half - you should see wild rose plants in this split. Be careful, they have prickers!! Look beneath the reddish brown stone to find the other "wild rose".
