Mima Falls Letterbox
Placed 9/5/04 by the Nail Family

Location: Mima Falls Trail, near Littlerock, WA

Directions: Take I-5 Exit #95 and head west on Maytown Rd appx 4 miles to town of Littlerock. Continue west another mile to Mima Rd/Waddell Creek Rd and turn left. Follow appx 2 miles and turn right onto Bordeaux Rd. Follow Bordeaux appx 3/4 Mile and turn right onto Marksman Rd. Follow Marksman Rd appx 1/2 mile north to the Mima Falls Trailhead.

Difficulty: This letterbox is a fairly easy hike of appx 5 miles round trip on Washington State Dept of Natural Resources maintained trails to the Mima Falls. The trail is well maintained and a fairly easy hike with a few minor elevation gains and is suitable for all ages. The trail is accessable to bicycles and horses as well (no motorized vehicles allowed). There are a few spots that tend to be muddy in the wet months and horse biscuits abound during the spring and summer. The trail is part of an extensive trail system covering the Capitol Forest and Black Hills areas.

Clue Difficulty: straight forward clues, some compass use.

Clues:
Park in either the lower lot or the upper lot. If you have horses take advantage of the many corals, watering troughs, mounting ramps, etc that are provided by the DNR.

Take the Mima Falls, Mima Porter #8 trail into the woods.

Soon you will come to a trail junction. Take the trail headed 300.

Cross the forest road and continue they way of the horses.

High view of a pond on the left.

The trail begins descending, stay downhill when a choice needs made.

U-shaped bridge indicates correct direction.

Another junction- 8 is your number.

Sue doesn't like to get her feet wet, you should be glad.

The falls. Careful of the slope if wet but do climb down for a better view.

To the box:
Don't wet your feet but move to an elevated span.
Take a bearing of 285. Twins.
At their feet facing the elevation, turn 235 and take 10.
View 350, behind and below larger.

Please be discrete and rehide carefully as this is a very popular spot for hikers, bikers, and horse-people. Enjoy the scene and sounds for a while. The table is a great spot for a picnic. The trail continues another mile to a forest road and then continues on to several other notable locations.

We hope you enjoy the hike, the location, and the box. The stamp was hand carved on location on the day of placement. If the box needs any help, please contact us at the7nails@yahoo.com
