Apparantly the entire series is a bust. Sorry for any disappointment. We'll try to replace and re-hide another time.

Info:

This is a 4-box Series, however each quackerbox is in a DIFFERENT park in Albany. If you wish to go to all 4 boxes it will probably be a half-day event.

I have always liked ducks and so in trying to come up with a stamp for the first Letterbox in Albany, I thought it fitting to make it a ducky stamp and put it in a place where adults & children could feed ducks while Letterboxing. Waverly Lake Park (the 1st quackerbox) used to have a huge (VW-Bug Sized) painted foam duck floating on the Lake that was well known. It is sad it is not there anymore, but hopefully you’ll enjoy this “Quackerbox Series” in honor of that and all the fun spots to feed ducks in Albany. So bring lots of bread and a few colored pens if you want to make the stamps colorful (brown, orange & blue work well).

Clues:

#1 – Waverly Lake Quackerbox:

(MIA as of 10/15/04 - Will try to replace and relocate)

Heading South on I-5, take the Pacific Blvd exit. (#234) At the first stop light you will see Waverly Lake Park diagonally to the right. Take a right here (onto Albany Ave) and then another right at the next light (Salem Ave). Take the next right and park your car in the parking lot. Go through the tunnel along the walk path. To your left will be the “Grumpy Old Troll” bridge (as my 2 yr. old son calls any foot bridge). Continue straight to the boat dock where you can rent paddle boats if you so choose. Continuing on the path from the boat doc, count 10 cement squares, and turn to face the lake. Straight in front of you should be a tree. Hidden in the trunk is your 1st quackerbox.

#2 – Timber Linn Quackerbox:

From the Waverly Lake parking lot, go back to Pacific Blvd via Salem and Albany Avenues. Take a Left onto Pacific and stay in the right lane so you go under the freeway overpass onto Knox Butte Road. Continue past the Expo center and take a right onto Timber St. Follow that until it Tees into Dogwood Ave and turn right. This should swing around to the left and become Price Road. Before the road swings left, there is a small parking area and a park sign. You want to pass this smaller lot and park in the next lot. Once you cross another “Grumpy Old Troll” bridge, turn right. Straight ahead should be some bathrooms. Between the bridge and the bathrooms is a big tree. Your 2nd quackerbox is hidden inside its trunk.

#3 – Grand Prairie Quackerbox:

Get back out onto Price Road and continue South until you find Highway 20 or (Santiam road). Take a right. Follow this road until you come to Waverly Drive and go left. (If you pass a Fred Meyer and Hollywood Video on your left, you’ve gone too far. Continue on Waverly until you find Grand Prairie Road. Take a right and then a left into the parking lot. Go across the “Grumpy Old Troll” bridge and walk left along the waters edge. There is kind of a seam between the cement / rock retaining wall and the grass. Follow this seam until you pass three benches. The third bench is wooden and directly across the water from it is a pier. Between the bench and the pier, in the seam lies your 3rd quackerbox.

#4 – Aflac Quackerbox:

From the Grand Prairie Park get back onto Waverly Drive heading South. Follow Waverly until you come to 34th St. and go right. Follow this street a LONG way until you find Pacific Blvd and take another right. (34th Tees into Pacific, so you’ll know when to turn) Continue along Pacific (North) until you pass Queen Ave (intersection with a light). Ferry St. is 3 blocks past Queen and you will want to turn left onto Ferry. Continue along Ferry until 8th Ave and find a place to park. A canal goes along 8th Ave where there are ducks to feed and benches to rest upon. Between Ferry and Broadalbin find the “8th Ave Patrol Aflac” bench. Sit on the bench, and look to your right. There is a tree with a really bad cavity. Hidden inside will be your 4th quackerbox.

We hope you enjoyed finding these ducks and experiencing the parks.
