About the Area:
Arrowhead can found as Flat Rock Hill on topographical maps. At the top of Arrowhead were you will be hiking is an area called Flat Rock. It is just that, a large stone area that over looks the ski area and Claremont before it drops off to an expert trail, steep and rocky. Arrowhead Skiway was a small to medium sized ski area facility that operated for almost 30 years. When it opened in 1962, it was named King's Arrow (associated with a nearby inn) and had skiing with 2 Poma lifts, 5 trails and a 30 acre novice area. The area was listed in guidebooks until the late 1960's. After the late 60's, the area ceased to be listed in any guidebooks. Although not listed, the area operated off an on, and most recently from 1980-1990. A person could ski down the slope, travel to the large deck, remove his/her skies and walk through the large doors to the main area of the lodge. The base lodge was a large A- Frame building. My brother has been working for past years on reopening the trails and ski area itself. For more information go to http://www.arrowheadnh.com

Warnings:
Poison Ivy Warning. Beware there is poison ivy located somewhere out there. It’s believed to lurk in the upper center of the slope away from the walking trails. So if you have kids only let them play in the grass around the main buildings at the bottom. I did not see any near the trails on the way up. Beware of Broken Glass. This area is being revitalized and there is only so much the volunteers can do. There are lots of little pieces around flat rock. Beware of loose and or slipper rocks.

The Clues!!
Directions to Arrowhead (http://www.arrowheadnh.com/directions.htm) Park any were you would like in the dirt lot. Any trail warning signs are meant for ATV’s. Non-motorized bikers and pedestrian traffic is allowed on the ski area. From the parking area go up to the blue ski lift towers on the right side of the slope. On the left side of the towers there is a light ATV/truck trail all the way up.

Follow the blue towers all the way to the top of the Ski Area. Its straight up climb, so it will get your blood pumping. If you get tired just take a break and turn around and enjoy the view. It took me about 20 minutes to get up this part of the trail on average it takes about 30 minutes and for the fit around 15.

At the top it opens up a bit and you will see two trail off to the left. You want to take the one on the right that is mostly dirt and rocks and goes slightly up hill. Continue up the trail until you get to you get to the big rock hill top known as Flat Rock on your
left. Less then 5 minutes walk. Walk along the rock and notice the flagpole and names and dates carved in the rocks. And enjoy the view of Claremont and surrounding countryside and river.

After enjoying the view time to find the box. The box is located back down the trail you just came up. So go back to the trail and facing down the trail find a three-trunk maple tree that stands alone on the right side of the trail. From the tree take about 80-85 steps down the trail.

Set back off the trail on the right should be a pine tree. On one side of the pine is a small three-trunk maple on the other side is a bunch of large rocks. Go behind the pine and face it. To find what you seek look under the rock on the right.
After logging in carefully re hide the box. And carefully make your way back down the ski slope. The walk down is much quicker, 10-15 minutes tops.
Enjoy
