THIS BOX IS CONFIRMED MISSING & HAS BEEN RETIRED.

April 2006- Just received a notice this box may be gone.

Hendricks Park is my favorite park in Eugene and this is why I've chosen to plant my first letterbox here. It was originally intended for the Rhododendron Garden, but this area is too well maintained and I did not want to jeapordize the box or disrespect the gardeners. Instead, I chose to hide it in the more forested areas across the road from the Rhododendron Garden. I encourage you to take a stroll through the gardens either before or after you find the letterbox, especially in the springtime when everything is in bloom.

***Bring your own inkpad and pen!***

The Directions:
Follow Walnut street to Fairmount Boulevard, then east on Summit Avenue. Park in the lot by the picnic area, which is across the street from the Rhododendron Garden.

Start out from the picnic area and look for the paved trail between the Stop sign and No Parking sign. Go through the "gate" with the cement posts and continue uphill on the paved trail. Just after the trail peaks look for a smaller path on your left and take it.

Continue on this path until you see a fork; you want the left one. Soon you will come to a small clearing where a tree divided the trail briefly. Ahead you will come upon a knobby stump on your right hand side. Watch out for a fallen tree in the middle of the path! If you look under that log there is a Rhododendron Box living there.

Cheers!
