Confirmed alive and well on September 27, 2009 - new stamps placed at that time!!
Placed by Aussiefire, katze21539, Koori, Moni & NJCarole
From the Village of Long Lake, take NYS route 28/30 south for 3 miles to North Point Road (Hamilton County Route 3). (This point is 7.7 miles north of the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake).
There will be a sign here that says "Buttermilk Falls." Turn right (west) onto North Point Road, and follow it for 2.1 miles.
On the right will be a sign for Buttermilk Falls, and the parking area.
Park and head to the waterfalls (a beautiful site).
Go past a picnic bench and fireplace.
Go to a second picnic bench and fireplace.
With your back to the fireplace look at the fallen giant at 125 degrees.
In the roots under some rocks is what you seek.
For more information about the waterfalls go to: http://www.angelfire.com/ny4/waterfalls/buttermilkfalls.html
