Miller Farm Bridge @ Oil Creek State Park (OCSP)
This letterbox is to commemorate the rich history of the Oil Heritage Region. This is the first letterbox we have hidden. Since moving to this area in January 2003 we have explored the area and enjoyed learning about its history. We’ve found a love for the area and want to share it with our Letterboxing community.
About Oil Creek State Park:
Discover the Valley that changed the world! The Oil Creek Valley is the site of the world’s first commercial oil well. Oil Creek State Park tells the story of the early petroleum industry by interpreting oil boomtowns, oil wells, and early transportation. Scenic Oil Creek State Park consists of over 7,000 acres of wooded hills, deep hollows and over 12 miles of meandering Oil Creek in the scenic and historic Oil Creek gorge. Most of the oil boom locations have returned to the natural beauty of the wild, and look almost as they did before Colonel Edwin Drake drilled for oil in August 1859.
Directions to Miller Farm Bridge:
From Oil City: Route 8 North through Rouseville, pass Cross Creek Resort and Golf Course on left, at the next dirt road (Black Road T-669) turn right and go to a T, turn right onto Dutch Hill Road (T-576) which will turn into Miller Farm Road (T-635). Travel down road as it winds through the park until you come to Miller Farm Bridge.
From Titusville: Route 8 South, turn right at light onto Franklin St (another name for Rt 8) continue past McDonald’s over steel bridge through last red light leaving town (crossroad Bloss Ave). Continue on Rt 8 up hill, pass Titusville Veterinary Clinic on left, at the next dirt road (Black Road T-669) turn left and go to a T, turn right onto Dutch Hill Road (T-576) which will turn into Miller Farm Road (T-635). Travel down road as it winds through the park until you come to Miller Farm Bridge.
Directions to the Letterbox:
Cross the bridge over Oil Creek. Park in area to left or right before the railroad tracks. By foot, cross back over the bridge and hike down embankment on northside (right). Go to the bottom of foundation where huge boulders are laid side by side. Look in crack between the first and second boulders that form the base. The letterbox is wedged in there covered by debris. Take the letterbox back up embankment and sit on top of boulders to exchange stamp images. (Doing this may steer away any stares from fishermen from the hiding spot.) After you have finished please put the box back in it’s original hiding place making sure that it isn’t visible.
Before you leave this area, look past the railroad tracks and there will be a wooden staircase on the left-hand side of the road leading up the mountainside. If you follow that trail you will come to an old cemetery on the right hand side.

While in town, consider stopping at the Drake Well Museum off of Bloss Ave. & Route 8, phone ahead 814-827-4888 or visit www.drakewell.org. The museum presents a full-size replica of the engine and derrick over this early oil well, plus outstanding exhibits about Pennsylvania oil country.
Another form of transportation through the Oil Heritage Region is a ride on the Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad. The OC&T RR operates an excursion train on weekends and other dates from May through October at 1 pm. The 26-mile round trip travels through Oil Creek State Park from Titusville to Rynd Farm. Located on Perry Street in Titusville, call OC&T RR at 814-676-1733 for reservations and information.
