Locust Grove is the home of Samuel B. Morse, and the homes and gardens are open daily from morning to dusk. Locust Grove is located on Route 9 just south of the city of Poughkeepsie, NY.
You will need to pick up a map of the hiking trails either at the visitors' center or at the information board at the trail head.
Find the southernmost intersection of the Ravine Trail and the Hemlock Trail. Sight 45 degrees down the trail to a tree with a deep S-bend at the bottom (or if compass-less, go 45 steps north on Ravine trail). The “DashDotDashDot” box is hidden at the base of this tree.
You might want to bring along a copy of the Morse Code, although there should be copies available in the box.
Please contact us with comments about the placement, clues, and condition of the box. These boxes in Locust Grove are our first placements, so we welcome advice!
