Here is a kid friendly box: little walking, interesting things to see, air conditioning, refreshments, easy clues. Have fun!
This box honors the work of Charles Monroe Schultz, the creater of Peanuts. During his lifetime as a Sonoma County resident Mr. Schultz built and maintained Redwood Empire Ice Arena (Snoopy's Home Ice)and a gift shop with an upper level gallery of posters, awards and all things related to the Peanuts gang.
Since his death, a museum of his life and work has been built across the street. It houses permanent and changing exhibits, sculpture garden plus an auditorium screening the many films made with Lee Mendelson.
Check out this website for hours and directions, however you do not need to enter the museum to find the boxes. The gift shop and cafe are free. If interested in skating, call ahead for public skate hours: hockey, lessons, etc. have their own scheduled times.
Box #1 REPORTED MIA as of June 5, 2005
Stand with the warm puppy at your back. Walk ahead and look for the skating Snoopy drawn in concrete. Walk counterclockwise visiting all the famous skaters. When you come to the skater whose name sounds like Charlie Brown turn south and walk towards the flagpoles. Once at the poles turn west and walk parallel to the street to the first redwood tree. Look carefully in the ivy at west side of the tree base. PLEASE rehide well after carefully closing the box.
Box #2 (Can be gotten either from inside the museum grounds or outside.) RETIRED
Go find the kite eating tree (somewhat harder to find when the trees are fully leaved out), if in doubt ask at the cafe. Check on the black iron fence, near the ground near the tree. This is a black spray painted altoid container, so bring a micro stamp.
