In memory of The Most Righteous Brother Roach
Outside Dahlonega amid the North Georgia mountain twisties that he loved to ride, find the only covered portion of that famous trail. Pass through northwards with the southbound thru hikers and cross over the road to regain the trail for a strenuous five mile hike. Be sure to bring water, energy foods, and your emergency kit as this is a true wilderness quest.
Up we go! The best views are before the summit, and by all means catch your breath and enjoy them, but please do work uphill to the top. You'll find there an unmistakable stony landmark, accompanied a few steps farther along by a couple of most useful items.
Moldering on the second, look carefully through the trees at 270° and find a large crack in the granite ledge. Twenty steps along that bearing brings the trail, and then a short right-left zig zag is needed to reach that crack. To the right at 310° is a little pocket cove and eight steps in, a shard of granite leans against the ledge down at ground level to make a little box house. Conspicuous is hidden there under a football sized cover stone. Thanks for looking!
