August 17, 2006: Placed logbook 3 and put backer on stamp.

Difficulty: Short but very steep trail. It's like climbing stairs, but more rocky. As little as 30 minutes round trip; longer depending on how many breaks you take.

Driving and Parking: Route 93 to the exit for Echo Lake at the northern end of Franconia Notch. Park in Echo Lake parking lot or walk there from wherever you park.[*Echo Lake charges to park when swimming is open. Ask the person in booth if you can park for hiking for free, or park down the street at free hiker parking.]

Hiking from the Echo Lake parking lot:
Marked trail starts across the street, tucked behind the end of a guard rail. The trail itself is marked with red paint. Follow the trail, taking both right-hand forks (one fork is early on, the other is higher up and marked on a boulder). Once you are up there, enjoy the views and look for eagles. IMPORTANT: This is a cliff. There is plenty of room for safety, but keep children away from edge!

Finding the Letterbox:
Look for the tallest boulder on top of the bluff. There are three rocks laid out in front of that boulder. Stand behind the left-hand rock and face the woods, so you are looking back down the trail. Walk about 25 steps along that trail into the woods. (The exact number of steps isn't important.) Look for a flat-ish boulder to your right. This is Papa Boulder. Next to Papa Boulder are two pointy-topped boulders, Mama and Baby (though Baby is large too). The letterbox is under Mama Boulder, the middle one, hidden in leaves under the edge. The stamp shows the view of Echo Lake and Cannon Mountain from Artist's Bluff. Re-hide carefully, covering box with leaves again after tucking it under the rock.

Placed by Beaker and family, in a place we have loved for many years.
