6/14/08 - Box checked and found to be OK. However, poison ivy was noticed in the vicinity - beware!

NOTE: Original (commercial) stamp replaced by hand-carved stamp 4/29/07. Bring your own ink; black/gray and brown and silver recommended.

PEDESTRIANS: The park police have started enforcing the "no parking for non-equestrians" rule at the horse camp (especially on weekends), so I suggest you park at the first gravel parking lot on the south side of Hart Road. Walk east on Hart Road a short distance til you find the horse trail. Walk south on the horse trail. Do NOT take any of the trails or paths to the left; stay on the main trail until you come to a green gate. Then you will have to take a left turn (now heading more or less east). Continue walking. You will eventually pass an intersection with a well-defined horse trail running off to the north up a hill. Do not take that trail, continue east. After awhile you will find a tree on the right side of the trail with a small hollow near the base. The letterbox is hidden under the pile of logs beside the tree just east of it. Watch out for poison ivy, and please rehide the box well, as the trail gets a lot of equestrian traffic. The hiding place is right next to the trail and if the box is not completely covered it may be visible from above by horseback riders. If the trail makes a 90-degree turn to the left, you have gone too far.

EQUESTRIANS: Starting point is the equestrian area of Rock Cut State Park, which is located on Hart Road east of Perryville Road. Take the trailhead out of camp WEST and bear left at the first Y junction. You will now be heading south. The trail will cross Hart Road and take you through a meadow, and eventually into the woods. Stay on the main trail heading south through the woods. When the trail makes a 90-degree bend to the right, look for an old stump on the left. After passing it, watch for a tree on the left side of the trail with a small hollow near the base.

Please contact me at eirene16@hotmail.com if the box is missing or the contents damaged.
