May 16, 2010.
I had to pull this series (actually ALL my Green Lane boxes). I need to register them with the park. It was time to clean them up anyway> Check back later.

This easy series was placed in preparation for a class I gave at Green Lane for beginner Letterboxers. Two of the stamps were experiments in using foam animals on wood blocks, hence creating a stamp even a 2 year old could make. These require minimal compass skills.

Box 1: Peaceable Kingdom
Start at he Gazebo. Follow the stone trail to the right towards the bridge.
Do not cross the bridge.
Instead, take the narrow trail up the steep bank on your right.
Stand on the highest rock on this hill. Face the bridge.
Now look over your right shoulder, slightly back behind you.
You will see an old dead stump.
Walk to it but step carefully because there is poison ivy in the area. The box used to be under the stump. Look another 15 feet beyond it and find a large double tree with a big rock embedded in the roots. Behine the left one, under some bark and leaves.
Please recover carefully after stamping in.

Box 2: Caber Toss

This stamp was carved in honor of the Scottish-Irish Festival held here in Green Lane Park every September. If you have never been to it, make sure you mark you calendar. It’s great fun.
The Caber Toss is one of the competition events held there every year.
Head down to the bridge and cross it. After the bridge there will be a split rail fence on your right. Just before the fence ends there is a big tree on that side. Walk around the fence and stand at the base of this tree. Take a bearing of 60 degrees. Head towards the taller tree in the distance, on the right. From this tree, bear 30 degrees and walk about 4 paces. Look at the base of the dead tree. I put a large rock in front of the opening to discourage animal interference. Please replace it.

Box 3: Under the Sea
Saw a small snake when I was doing maintenance in Sept 2007 right in the hole with the box. Not sure what kind, but he didn't really want to leave without some coaxing.

This is a mini box. No stamp pad.
From Caber Toss Bear 330 degrees towards a big tree.
This one leans a bit to the left (from your current point of view).
From this tree, bear 47 degrees to that large Sycamore tree.
From the base of that big guy, bear 346 degrees to a telephone pole.
From this pole, you should be able to see a drainage ditch and pipe.
Under the large rock, on top of the pipe, behind some stones is the thing you seek.

Please send us a note on the condition of the boxes. I am particulary concerned in the water tightness of the mini boxes.
