When we were hiding the Mr. Potato Head Letterbox, I discovered The Yawning Tree. This tree had such a great facial expression, I couldn't resist.
Directions to Sandy Pond:
From Route 6, take Exit 7. From either direction, you will take a left at the off-ramp. Look for Higgins Crowell Road on the left. It is the 2nd left after the ramp and is marked by a sign that says "W Yarmouth Bass River". Take Higgins Crowell and follow it until you come to the first set of lights. There is a roundabout along the way, you take the first right to stay on the road. At the lights, take a right onto Buck Island Road. Look for Sandy Pond Recreation Area on the right. Drive past the baseball field, bear a left and park near Sandy Pond. Your search for this letterbox starts at the entrance to the Life Course, which is to your right if you are facing the pond.
This letterbox is not far from Mr. Potato Head. After you pass #7, start looking at the trees to the left for this distinctive one. If you reach #8, you walked too far. The letterbox is behind The Yawning Tree, under a few stones.
