The Perkiomen Trail Series - Sunrise

Sept 9,2007: Did maintenance check. Alive and well.

The Perkiomen Trail stretches from Green Lane, PA all the way to Valley Forge (22 miles in length), and then connects to the Valley Forge bike trail which can take you all the way to Manyunk and Philadelphia.
It is a beautiful trail for hiking or biking, any time of the year.

This is the first of six planned letterboxes for the Perkiomen Trail. All will be placed somewhere along the Trail and have a “space” theme (sun, moon, stars) in honor of our new Adventure Guides group, The StarGazers.

Difficulty: Very easy walk. Suitable for the entire family.
Minimal compass skills are required.
Note: a pace is two steps. i.e. Count a pace every time you step on your right foot.
Note: This box does NOT contain an ink pad stamp. Please bring your own.

Start at the Crusher Road Trailhead.
Head pretty much due South (towards Schwenksville).
You will soon come to a very sturdy, wooden bridge.
The box is not here, but the view of the Perkiomen Creek is nice.
Continue on the trail for a while longer.
Eventually you will see a smaller trail heading up the hill on your left.
A tall tree stump (~15 high) on the right side of the main trail is your reference point.

Head up this smaller trail approximately 12 paces.
You will come to a large three trunk tree.
Follow a bearing of ~37 degrees.
You will soon come to another large three trunk tree. Pretty cool, huh?
This one has a hole in the base.
Take a peek inside.
Watch out for rattlers! Just kidding.

Please be discrete when stamping and replacing the box since this is a popular hiking area.
Check back on the website for the other Perkiomen Trail Series letterboxes.

Please email us to let us know you found it! trainear@comcast.net
Hope you had fun.
The Raindears.
