Status of Letterbox: Alive and Well on 3/15/2008
The "Cool Dog" Letterbox was placed on the same day as the 1st Texas Letterboxing Event, but in a park down the road. It is located at Lake Bastrop Park - South Shore. This park offers fishing, camping, picnicing, playgrounds, and much more.
Directions:
From Bastrop, go east on Hwy 21 for 1 mile past Bastrop State Park. You will see the brown sign for the park. Turn left, and go 1.3 miles to the "Lake Bastrop South Shore Park" sign. Turn right, then right again on oneway entrance. After paying your fee, continue on the main road to the boat ramp area. Park your car in the large lot on the right, near the building at the boat ramp.
To the Letterbox:
West of the building is a sidewalk. Take this north across the wooden bridge. Continue north through the picnic area, past the volleyball court, on to the farthest northeast corner of the picnic area (you should be on a point, with lake on side and inlet on other).
Near this point, find the lone cedar tree. From this tree walk south west along the bank, heading up the inlet. Start counting the wooden posts as you go.***** It has been reported that the posts are gone, so box may be also, not confirmed ****** The 16th and 18th post have reflectors on them. When you reach the 21st post, you will find the box behind it, covered with leaves and a rock. Please re-cover it well!!!!
