5-16-2009 These are new clues due to too much water on the trail. The first set of clues were so much fun that I hated to change them but we had to bushwhack almost half of the way in.

Capital...Springfield
State Bird...Cardinal
State Flower...Native Violet
Nickname...The Prairie State
Admission Date...December 3 1818
Directions: From the intersection of RT66 and RT.85,Take 85 north for 0.7 of a mile and turn down the road with the boat launch sign, this is the entrance to Holbrook Pond. Drive down a little ways and park in the parking area on the right before the pond. This is the same starting point as Red Men at Holbrook Pond.)
Enter the trail and walk over the wooden bridge you will see the dam on your left. Continue down the trail ( some muddy areas but you can walk around them) soon you will see a trail going off to the right but you keep going straight. You will see a stone wall on the right and just as it moves away from the trail notice a faint path going in the same direction. Take this path following the wall until you come a large downed tree. This trail seems to end here. Look in the right end of this log. Return the way you came.
