Four boxes in Penwood State Park. Be sure to take directions for all the Penwood boxes. No ink in these boxes.

Penwood is located on Rt. 185 in Bloomfield. From the parking lot take the paved road to the left of the stone memorial. This will be a circle walk ( or loop, but loop of lives didn't ring true) and features some of the Hartford area's renown personalities. Two of the stamps were carved by RTRW, thanks again to her for her generosity.

This loop was once paved to be driven by car and has several paths leading from it. It has been brought to my attention that some of them may be (poorly) blazed but the only blazed trail mentioned in these clues are marked by a brown sign post.

This starts off going uphill for a bit and then levels off where there has been some tree cutting going on. Go up another small hill, down and then up a little larger hill. At the top of this you might see an unmarked trail coming in from the right blazed in red. Just after this trail there's a clearing on the left with a perfect three sister letterboxing tree about 15 steps off trail but Harriet Beecher Stowe isn't in that one, look in back and just to the right of it for an almost prefect two sister letterboxing tree for your prize. Make sure no one's around to see what you're up to and rehide carefully. (carved by RTRW)

There's another uphill right away followed by a slight downhill where it then levels out except for minor ups and downs that can't be classified as hills. Continuing on the road for about a mile you'll see a sign post on your left for Cedar Ridge Overlook. Take a left here, go to the top of the hill and take a left onto the yellow blazed trail, be careful of the drop off on your right. Watch for three 2 sister trees in a row on the left side of the trail, each about 16 ft apart from its neighbor. The third 2 sister is the one to site 80 degrees from and take 15 steps to a tree with a hidey hole in the base. Remove a rotted stump and reach under a slate slab for Mr. Twain. Rehide carefully, he's been missing before. Carved by Gizz.

Go back the way you came, to the main road, go left and as you start downhill, the yellow trail comes in from the left. At the foot of the hill turn right with water on you left and a picnic table and a boardwalk (the board walk is temporaily closed). On your right is the remains of an old parking lot from the days when this was a loop ride instead of a walk.
Ahead of you on the left will be two more picnic tables, sign posts galore and an observation deck. If you have the clues for Lake Louise, go up the Metacomet trail to the right. If you have Hike it or Bike it clues for Penwood State Park you can get it from this point, for the rest of this series go down the paved road to the right and walk till you go through a gate (paved lot and pavilion on the left) heading uphill you need to watch on your right for a tree with a "trail" sign above eye level. Standing between this tree and the guardrail post take 30 steps uphill to a good size tree and look on the right side.
Rehide etc. (store bought stamp)

On to the last but not least of the areas renown and my personal favorite. Keep walking on the road, notice a trail on the left blocked by a log gate which goes downhill and back in the direction from whence we came:-) Soon you see Gale Pond on the left, the blue trail on the right and then an unmarked trail with large rocks blocking it. From this line of rocks take about 25 steps up hill to a fallen tree almost perpendicular to the trail. It is wedged in back of two trees. Behind these trees under bark is the Bookworm letterbox. Bring along a good book, sit on the log and looking over the lake enjoy the rest of your day, you've earned it.

Again be very careful you are now in the high traffic area. (carved by RTRW)
Thanks for visiting.
