Degree of Difficulty – easy
Distance – less than 1 mile
Est. Time – about ½ hour
Terrain – sidewalks, stairs and narrow gate “bridge” to cross.

This is a fun spot to visit in the summer when you can watch boaters go up and down in the canal and shudder to the thumping trains overhead. Fishermen, rock climbers and picnic parties also frequent the spot. Visit the blockhouse and lockmaster’s house May to Sept. Outdoor area can be explored all year but not much going on in the winter.

From Hwy 401 exit at Montreal Street and head North 1 km. At Kingston Mills road turn right, east. The turn is just past the Vet’s. About 2km further you will come to the locks. Park on the south side in the parking lot ($1) or on the shoulder of the road if it is not busy.

To the BOX:
Leaving the parking lot, walk east to Lockmaster Anglin’s house. Follow the path south as it skirts the western side of the locks. Walk down 43 stairs. You will now see 2 wooden steps that take you over the top of the gate on the last lock. Cross over to the other side of the lock. (You may have to choose another lock if this one is open.) Now walk north along the eastern side of the lock, back under the train bridge. Wait for a train if you want a thrill! Continue on until you see the wooden staircase going up. Turn right on the gravel path. The path will take you to the blockhouse by the road if you go left, but first you need to find the box so stay on the right arm of the path for a bit. You will see a pile of very big square timbers on your right. Sit down on the one the looks the longest & nearest the path. Face the path. Looking down over your left shoulder you will see a rock propped near the bottom of the timber you are sitting on. The box is under the timber behind the rock. Replace the rock and “plump up” the tall grass when you leave. Now head to the right arm of the path and have a look at the blockhouse and waterfall.
